Singapore Masters 3-Day Workshop
with Guy Gowan, Kevin Wilson, Richard Dutkowski and Colin Buck

I'm pleased to announce the Singapore Masters Workshop for 2009 will be on 29, 30 and 31 October. I'll be joined by three excellent speakers to provide a two and a half day Workshop covering all the essential aspects of running a professional photography business in this digital age.

The first day, from 10am, we'll welcome any new members and Licentiateship judging, and those interested in applying for membership, so please let as many of your fellow professionals know about the event as possible – even past members, who may be thinking of re-joining the Association. We'll also be bringing along the MPA Shop to the convention, with a good selection of DVDs and other training material. This includes Guy Gowan's and Kevin Wilson's DVDs on special offer.

Please read below about the Print Competition, Workshop, Qualifications and how to book. You need only pay a £50 returnable deposit now. We need to know possible numbers attending as soon as possible, so please book now. You have up to 14 days before the event to cancel if you wish.

I'd also like to welcome Ryan Yan Teck Wong FMPA, who is the Associations’ new Ambassador for South East Asia. If you have any queries, please contact Ryan or William Ng Tong Hng directly.

Also, may I remind you to send in your entries to England for the Master Photography Awards 2009. The deadline has been extended to 10 August, so you don't have much time left! Full details are at the MPA website.

I look forward to seeing you in the first instance in Newcastle upon Tyne in October and then in Singapore later in the month.

Colin Buck, Chief Executive

The Speakers

Guy Gowan

Guy is an accredited Adobe and Apple expert, the creator of a popular series of Photoshop tutorial DVDs which instead of merely selling preset Actions teach the user to create their own Actions and Droplets. He offers a website-based programme to keep photographers up to date with techniques covering the entire Adobe Creative Suite range of products and more.

Guy's talks on the MPA exhibition stand at Focus on Imaging 2009 stopped the traffic - the entire aisle space was taken up by an audience which extended well beyond the seating area. He will be unveiling some new learning methods.

He's also recently received his Fellowship of the MPA for his outstanding tuition over the past three years. This really is a programme not to be missed.

Kevin Wilson

Kevin Wilson took everyone by surprise with the content of his latest DVD tutorial covering the approach he takes to using light on location. He is an expert in shaping existing light, using reflectors, only adding flash or tungsten light when it is absolutely necessary.

He has recently achieved his third Fellowship, adding an FBIPP in Wedding Photography to his FMPA and FBIPP successes in Portraiture. He will be staging a wedding shoot with a model, demonstrating his posing methods and approach to lighting. After the shoot, Guy Gowan will apply his Photoshop workflow expertise to process Kevin's shots.

Richard Dutkowski

Richard Dutkowski FMPA was the first Master Photographer of the Year. He is a highly creative portraitist, his pictures often drawing on Fine Art precedents. He will be presenting his work and discussing artistic values, the craft of photography, and his personal photographic journey.

Like many photographers, he knows that journey must also help provide income in retirement. The second part of his presentation will be Shooting for Your Pension, devoted to his landscape and pictorial work which is sold as stock photography and decor prints. With on-line sales in both fields opening up a worldwide market, he will show how creative photography can create an income stream for the future.
